As the trade in artificial intelligence falters, economists predict that India’s information-technology stocks will continue to beat global semiconductor shares by the largest margin ever this week.
An MSCI gage of global semiconductor stocks fell 7.2% over the week, while an index of India’s largest software exporters increased by nearly 12%. AI shares have plummeted in recent days due to concerns that the businesses are overpriced, which have been exacerbated by slower revenue growth, infrastructure funding issues, and fears of rate hikes.
Analysts predict that as the artificial intelligence rally fades, India’s information technology equities will continue to outperform their global semiconductor competitors by the largest margin in 20 years this week.
An MSCI benchmark of global semiconductor stocks fell 7.4% this week, while an index of India’s largest software exporters increased by more than 10%, setting the former on track for the largest weekly outperformance since 2004. Concerns about infrastructure finance, slower revenue growth, and rekindled worries about rate hikes have all contributed to the current decline in AI shares.
There have been some encouraging indicators for IT stocks. HCL Technologies Ltd. boosted its full-year sales growth forecast this week, while Ireland-based Accenture Plc said it intends to enhance revenue growth and profit margins until 2029.”If the semiconductor correction gains traction, as it has this week, foreign investors will begin to look at Indian IT stocks,” said Rajat Agarwal, an Asia strategist at Societe Generale SA in Bangalore. “We could probably see the end of de-rating in these companies, which itself should bring stability.”
